When I heard the name Malabar Beach I thought, that kind of sounds like a villain in a Marvel movie. But, the only thing truly villainous about this place is when walking around the beach on the vast scope of rocks, people laugh at you if you fall... Pure evil. Yes, this happened to me. White foam reaching to the brow of my face with that salt lick of the ocean, and suddenly- boom! Looking up and making eye contact while your face is red is the best feeling one could experience. I'm sure you would agree. But, I still got my fat arse up and continued along the rocks. Walk of shame you could call it.
Walking up to Malabar Beach it is quite small compared to others in Australia. Like the famous Bondi or Coogee beaches, but it has its own hidden treasures and, if you're looking to get away from people, this is the perfect retreat to go.
Take a walk down the rocks on the left side and you will begin a hiking path.
(There is an actual hiking trail on gravel, but that's just not exciting enough.) If you like animals, you will come across tons of wildlife. Crabs, lizards, sea urchins, and fish all around you. Some people may be afraid of these animals but, no need to fear because they all scatter. This hike from the beach may not be long, but it is one that takes some precision in your steps and time. Hoping over rocks and running through the water before a wave comes up and pimp slaps you, is like the game Frogger. You hop around trying not to get hit by a car and here you just don't want to fall in the vast Australian ocean where everything and their mother lurks in the waters waiting to get you. When you're at the end you'll know because you will be on a ledge overlooking the ocean at a 180 degree view.
On the right side of the beach is the rock pool. Take a dive in towards the edge of the rock pool and watch the waves smash up along the side, or you can sit on one of the benches and enjoy the view with a coffee from the cafe right next door. There is also a park in the vicinity. So, if you have kids they can go at it on the monkey bars or swings, then take a dip in the ocean. Perfect way to spend a day; whether relaxing or taking the adventurous route.
